We originally operated without dogs, relying heavily on grain motivation and man-power. When we expanded the flock in 2022, we quickly realized that we would need more power and speed than people can provide! We connected with Harry & Katie Frederick of Winding Creek Farms at the perfect time, just as they were expecting a litter of pups and the rest (as they say) is history. Moss came home in May 2023, followed shortly by Wyn in October 2023 and then Rose in March 2024.

Collies make our lives infinitely easier, allowing us to do work that otherwise couldn’t (or wouldn’t) get done. They love the job no matter the weather and are a constant source of joy. Barbara Sykes, in her book Training Border Collies, says “The border collie is the epitome of all we desire in a dog, a friend and a partner. Honesty, integrity and loyalty are second nature to a collie and they will work until they can go no further… Drink in the grace, speed and stamina, for rarely has so much come together so perfectly in so small a package.” And truly, we are inclined to agree!

Meet the Dogs

Luna is a 2015 Australian Shepherd/ Border Collie cross. She is the reason we have sheep! Very much a pet, she rules the house and loves nothing more than snuggling with her people. She is as sweet as she is beautiful.

Rose is a 2021 Border Collie purchased as a started dog from Winding Creek Farms in Spring 2024. She has a soft, confident eye and a great settling effect on stock. She’s the most recent addition to the pack.

Moss is a 2023 Border Collie purchased as a pup from Winding Creek Farms. She’s had 4 months of formal training and is quickly on her way to becoming a truly exceptional partner. She is bold and brave!

Wyn is a 2023 Border Collie and Moss’ littermate. She has big dreams of someday being a goose dog, but for now she is the world’s best vet-truck dog. She is a silly girl and an endless source of laughter.
